Skate a Frozen Lake Scugog

Snowmobile the Trails
Snowmobile through the local trails and see Port Perry from a thrilling perspective. After your scenic ride stop into one of our many farm-to-fork restaurants and cafes for lunch or a cup of hot chocolate. Feel like indulging in some comfort food? Grab a poutine from Captain George’s, made with real curds.
Build a Snowman
Do you want to build a snowman? Engage in some family fun at Palmer Park by building the ultimate snowman or snow-woman. The first step is to take a scoop of snow, if you can sculpt it into a tight snowball you’re ready. Next roll out three larger balls in varying sizes that will act as the base, body, and head of your frosty creation. Lastly you will want to give your new friend a face. Visit Foodland to pick up a classic carrot nose, and other treats that can act as eyes and a smile.
How can we have a list of Lake Scugog winter activities and not mention ice fishing? During the winter you can see ice huts dotting the frozen lake as far as the eye can see. Inside those little ‘houses’ are people trying their hand at ice fishing while sharing laughs, drinks, and stories.
Seasonal Horse Drawn Carriage Rides
Depending on when you visit Port Perry, you may just get to experience a cozy horse-drawn carriage ride.
*Ready to take you and your family on a sightseeing adventure through the downtown core, carriage rides take place on Queen Street and traditionally run on weekends in December.
Find a Book to Read
Downtown Port Perry is full of hidden gems, like Books Galore and Willow Books — both offering a unique selection of new and used books. Stop in at That Place on Queen and start those first couple of chapters, while sipping a warm drink in a cozy setting.
Take a walk down Port Perry’s Historic Main Street and go into Marwan’s Global Bistro. You’ll find internationally inspired food from Marwan’s travels to over thirty-five countries. Try a local favorite, the award-winning Old Flame and Cheddar Cheese Soup that’s made with locally made Old Flame Blonde beer. Order the Carne Asada Tacos and savour toasted flour tortillas, grilled marinated flank steak, avocado lime crema, pico de gallo, jalapeno, queso and cilantro. Try a Middle Eastern inspired dish with the Middle Eastern Dip Trio. You’ll be sure to leave with a satisfied appetite in a restaurant just a stone throw away from Lake Scugog.
Need something a bit quicker? Give Saffron Eatery a try! Some say that eating good shawarma is the key to happiness. Those same people may be onto something. You can even order online and pick it up at your convenience.
