The mission of Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is to empower Canadians with disabilities to navigate their world with confidence and independence by providing Dog Guides at no cost to them and supporting each pair in their journey together. Dog Guides play a crucial role in the lives of Canadians with disabilities and are life changing. The Port Perry Walk for Dog Guides joined the national walk in 2018. Thanks to our awesome community, the BIA and sponsors, our walk became the largest and most fun walk in Durham, and we were in the top 8% of the 300+ walks nationwide. To date we have also raised $13,500 earmarked towards the cost of a dog guide for a Scugog resident.

Mayor Drew has declared May, Dog Guide month and we a flag will be raised in front of the municipal offices. Jonathan van Bilsen has also interviewed six Durham recipients of Dog Guides that will be featured on social media.
